I saw the final episode today of one of my more recent favorite animated shows BATMAN THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD. It was a show that really had fun, was very creative and really hit the beats so well! I am one of those types that likes all types of Batman stories and this show went with the more cheerful and fun story lines with the Batman character. The final episode had Batmite manipulating things and it was a blast as usual! So adios to this version of Batman as it was a fun and interesting ride! In honor of this show and the Batmite character himself I creating this image posted below here in Illustrator today.

The Cudulla
Here is a flashback creation from 2007. A creature heavily inspired by the stories and visions of H.P. Lovecraft. This started out as an ink drawing and then I took it into Photoshop where I cleaned it up and colored it. Pleasant scares from other dimensions!

The Shrieker
A pencil drawing that just come out as I was playing around. A creepy figure emerges and a shriek from her causes your spine to tighten up from the fright of this sudden situation! You are frozen as she approaches her intentions unclear! Pleasant scares!

Cellar Dwellers
Another pencil drawing of creepy imagery inspired by things that go bump in the night. Or maybe beings creeping around in your cellar such as in this image. There is something about starting down the stairs into a dark basement, if you are in that creep-ed out mood. When I was a kid in New York we had a nice damp basement, but I never found any nasty character hanging around in it. Chills to you!

Dark Visions
Another pencil drawing I did earlier this week. I have been really into this pencil drawing in the last few weeks. I tend to not do this much rendered pencil work. Usually it is loose and light and inked later. I have been getting into Lovecraft stores again and even listening to an excellent podcast series on his work http://hppodcraft.com/
So I am sure a touch of Lovecraft went into this drawing here. Pleasant scares all!

Where has drawrick been?
I was hoping to keep a steady 2 postings a month or more going on, but here we are in October so I missed posting in August and September. Hey they say time flies, but this is ridiculous! So a few things that kept me busy were the San Diego Comic Con, a family reunion in New York, finally wrapping up and publishing my comic book DOCBOT, The Alternative Press Expo. In the mix was also some on site storyboard/presentation drawing at GYRO an ad/media agency. So finally I got back to this blog. In this posting is my FANTASTIC FOUR image I created for the 42nd COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL: SAN DIEGO SOUVENIR BOOK.
Also I am posting a picture of my DOCBOT comic the was co-created by Michael V. Bennett. http://bennettblacklight.com/
For more on DOCBOT....http://docbotcomicbook.blogspot.com/
Now back to creating and in addition looking for more work. Cheers!

Holly Horror Beach Summertime Fun
This illustration is a combination of some of my images put together and created with Illustrator. I love monster/horror films and used to watch beach party films, so I combined all the elements of those inspirations here. Today is the first day of summer 2011and that also inspired the creation of this illustration. Have a good summer and enjoy a beach somewhere if you can! Cheers!

A Couple DC Icon Images
Hey I hear there is this GREEN LANTERN film coming out soon! Anyways it inspired me to do this Green Lantern image and then I could not resist doing this other character Superman. Both of these images I created in Illustrator and I wanted to really try for a streamlined approach with just very minimal detail. So I present my style is a very optimized way and next time I might push it further!

Panic In Year Zero
This image or cover for something that doesn't exist yet came out of a small doodle from one of my latest sketchbooks that I just grew fond of. Basically the rough sketch was just of the three robots you see in this image. So I redrew them in Illustrator, added a background and this title just came out of my mind instantly. Will I do anymore with this image? Only the future knows and it is not talking yet.

Superman and Ironman
I was in the mood to do some fast digital painting exercises in Photoshop today. I also felt like doing retro takes on Superman and Ironman and having them up in the sky. Here are the results and I spend roughly 3.5 hours on them.

Rick Robot Roundup!
Last week I got my monster creations together for a group shot, so this week I got some of my robot creations to get together for a group shot. Like monsters, robots were something I was really into from all the B movies, TV shows like LOST IN SPACE, comic books etc. I was exposed to as a kid. Most of these bots in this image were created in Illustrator along with Photoshop and are all my original designs.

Rick Monster Roundup!
I really dig monsters big time and as a kid I grew up watching them when I could on all types of monster films from GODZILLA to ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS, etc. They left an imprint on my mind to this day! I really like to come up with my own monster creations and bring them into this reality! Here are a few of mine I have created in Illustrator over the past few years and I had pose for a group shot. Enjoy.

This came out of a twitter creative challenge called 13JasonsonFriday13 on Friday the 13th of this day. Check out his work here...http://www.francescofrancavilla.com/
Here is some of his Jason art posted on twitter that day...http://www.francescofrancavilla.com/gallery/back_to_crystal_lake.html

Zenderbot Exploring A Planet
I created this image in the last month or so. The robot in this illustration was a design from a few years ago I created in Illustrator. So I took this happy go lucky seeker bot and created this planet environment around it.

Robot Exploding Action!
Took this robot in leaping action out of my sketchbook today and did a fast color image of it in Photoshop. So it is one of those quick and dirty images. It was just a fast break image creation from some other stuff I am working on.

Rick and Mike WonderCon Sketchbook Pages
I helped out at my friend Mike Bennett's booth at WonderCon April 1-3, 2011 where we drew the two pages above from my newest sketch book. The right page is Mike's which he drew first and the left page is mine I drew last. Friday was a bit slower so we drew these pages at the booth and based the figures roughly on people that wondered near the booth. I will soon have many pictures posted my Facebook section from all three days at WonderCon. I am working with Mike on a comicbook project right now and have been helping him get his work into this part of California. Mike is from the LA area and has worked in the animation business. Here are two links dealing with his life and work. Bennett Blacklight and MVBennett IMDB.

MARCH MODOK MADNESS
I really dig this MARCH MODOK MADNESS blog big time seeing I like all Kirby creations and his MODOK one always left an impression on me. A few years ago I created a homage character to MODOK I named Maximillon pictured above. Well now I have christened him retroactively FOMODOK or father of MODOK if you will and this last Friday he was posted on the MARCH MODOK MADNESS blog. Here is the link...http://marchmodokmadness.blogspot.com/2011/03/submitted-modok-rick-lucey.html If you are a creator go ahead and create your MODOK and send it to the blog. Here is a fun Kirby page with I believe the earliest MODOK appearance. http://kirbymuseum.org/blogs/kirby/archives/231 You can also find MODOK on THE AVENGERS animated show on DISNEY HD currently.

Robot Illustration
I saw a quick sketch inside my present sketchbook from the other day I felt like taking to a finished form. The original sketch was closer to a thumbnail size so I blew it up some. I am posting the sketch and final image so you can see part of my work method. The final image was created in Illustrator in about 3 hours or so.

Two Monsters Of A Rough Kind
I thought I would post a semi rough drawing from my present sketch book. The monsters in this drawing were finished with an ink brush and colored markers. I always enjoy drawing a monster or two. Maybe more if I have the time...

Robot Must Stop It!
What this robot must stop it is up to you and your imagination. I really enjoy sketching out ideas and if they grab me I sometimes am driven to create them in a finished form. In the digital age with tools like Illustrator I have the ability to create visions that would of taken me quite a bit longer with traditional methods. I am posting the quick drawing of this robot scene taken from my sketchbook and the finished piece based on that drawing created in Illustrator, which was done in roughly 5-6 hours.

Captain America WWII Battle Scene.
I decided for the fun of it to create a retro WWII action scene starring one Captain America. He is a comic book hero partly created by one of my all time favorite artists Jack Kirby. The Captain America here started out as another character I created in Illustrator a few months back. I took it and adjusted it and boom one Captain America in the look from the upcoming film with some slight elements of my own added. The background was created in Photoshop with layers of actual war imagery I altered to give it a certain look. In addition I added a couple giant Nazi robots that was actually one character I also made in Illustrator. Enjoy...
